Winter Use Policy:

Yellowstone is open to snowmobiles and snowcoaches under the same conditions as last year (a 2-year interim winter use plan) while the new long-term winter use plan and EIS is being prepared.  Currently, 318 guided snowmobiles will be allowed to enter Yellowstone each day along with 78 guided snowcoaches. All guided snowmobiles must be “Best Available Technology”, which means that they are the cleanest and quietest commercially available snowmobiles.  A draft EIS and proposed rule are expected to be released in the spring of 2011 for public review.  The NPS intends to complete the EIS process and issue any new regulations prior to the start of the 2011-1012 winter seasons.
